Kansas City, Mo. (August 27, 2009) - AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMC), a leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment company, will open a new film office in Century City, within walking distance of one of its flagship theatres, AMC Century City 15. Robert J. Lenihan, president, programming, will oversee the office. Joining Lenihan will be longtime AMC associates Sonny Gourley, president of film, Hank Green, West Coast vice president of film, and three new associates: George Stewart, vice president, distributor relations; Nikkole Denson, vice president, specialized film and Joanie Bergmann, executive assistant.
"We are pleased to reestablish a physical presence for AMC's film team in L.A.," said Gerry Lopez, AMC CEO and president. "The addition of new talent and the relocation of key AMC film associates will reenergize our strong industry relationships, which are integral to our programming expansion strategy."
Stewart will work closely with AMC's studio partners in the role of distributor relations. She most recently worked at The Nielsen Company as the group marketing director, where she led the retail group division and helped the company sustain growth despite the economic downturn.
Denson served as the director of business development for Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX), where she primarily fielded, developed and negotiated music, film and book offerings for the Starbucks Entertainment division. She will focus on the procurement of specialty film for AMC.
Bergmann will support Lenihan and the L.A. staff. Previously, Bergmann worked with Hal Gaba and Norman Lear at Act III Communications.
"Our goal every day is to bring our guests the best possible entertainment experience," said Lenihan. "Considering their collective accomplishments, the addition of Nikkole, George and Joanie will only enhance AMC's ability to reinvent that experience."
Rich Boynton, senior vice president and head film buyer and an AMC veteran, will manage the Kansas City-based film associates. Including Boynton, 10 film associates will remain in Kansas City.
"We are relocating and employing associates in L.A. who need to have frequent personal contact with our studio partners," said Lenihan. "The L.A. group will be completely supported by and consistently communicating with the team in Kansas City."
